blueMarine for Windows and Linux requires Java 6; for Mac OS X it works with Java 5 (on Mac OS X 10.4 it's pre-installed with the operating system).
Please note that blueMarine is NOT compatible with Mac OS X 10.3 and earlier versions. This is because blueMarine needs Java 5, and Apple decided not to support it prior 10.4. The .dmg installation file cannot be read by Mac OS X 10.3 and earlier.
To install:
- on Mac OS X, just open the .dmg and drag the application icon whenever you want. Then double-click on the application icon to start blueMarine;
- on Linux (Ubuntu Feisty Fawn and similar distributions): downloading the .deb package should automatically run the system installer - just press the "Install package" button. Alternatively, you can manually run dpkg -i blueMarine-x.x.x_all.deb.
Please note that this installation depends on the package sun-java6-jre: which is available in the "multiverse" repository (only Ubuntu Feisty Fawn). Detailed instructions here.
This installation won't create shortcuts on the desktop: to run the application you have to execute blueMarine from a terminal console. - on other Linux distributions, be sure that you have a Sun Java JDK 1.6.0 or later, then run java -jar blueMarine-x.x.x-setup-linux.jar and follow on-screen instructions.
- on Windows: double click on blueMarine-x.x.x-setup-windows.exe and follow on-screen instructions.
