A couple of weeks ago the user forum of blueMarine has been disabled because of technical problems that are likely to be a hacker attack.

Our web provider first reported that the software used to run the forum was causing crashes to the whole server, and today sent us a suspicious log of a burst of accesses to certain pages of the forum. Unfortunately, it looks that while people provide free software, other people provide free hassles. We're trying to understand the problem in details in order to fix it and resume the functionality of the forum. Thanks for your comprehension.

The tests about upgrading the workspace from 0.9.RC2 are partially failing and this feature is mandatory for 0.9.RC3; so the released is beind delayed for a few days.

As RC1 is getting closer, this website is being upgraded for more efficiency in delivering information and news. We are trying to make a clear separation of the information presentation into two channels: one for blueMarine users and the other for developers. As a starting step, we have create two blogs for this two sets of visitors: bluemarine.tidalwave.it/blog and bluemarine.tidalwave.it/devblog. The former will be used to post tips and tricks about using blueMarine, the latter with information about extending the application with new plug-ins.

EA9 released

EA9 has been released and it's available for download. This release includes more than 30 fixes, the major ones being about blocking problems for Linux and Windows, as well as the introduction of a new look and feel for these two operating systems. Also native installers (.exe and .deb) have been released. Among the new features introduced, the support for NASA and Microsoft Visual Earth maps. The change log is available.

blueMarine cooperates with Apple D-User

D-User is an italian initiative to draw attention to the disabled user needs and to the effective use of accessible technologies in GUI applications for Mac OS X. blueMarine has agreed with D-User promoters to evaluate whether it's possible to integrate accessible technologies in its interface.

EA8 released and first screencast available

blueMarine 0.9.EA8 is available for download. This release addressed more than 30 issues and introduced a few new features, such as the Calendar Explorer. Also the first screencast about blueMarine (Lesson 1, Introduction) is available in the "Screencasts" section.

Build 0.9.EA7 is the last to be released under the MIT license. Starting from build 1415, the new adopted license is Apache v2.0.

Starting from 0.9.EA7.1292 NetBeans 5.5.RC1 is required for developing blueMarine. NetBeans 5.0 is no more supported.

Early Access 0.9.EA7.1292 released

In the original planning EA5 should have been the last before the RC1 - but as there is still insufficient test coverage, we released another Early Access. EA7 fixes 35 issues since EA5, including a blocking problem on Linux (that prevented the application from starting) and some other critical bugs.

Other improvement areas:

two new ways to organize photos: Galleries and Trips (which include all the geotagging stuff that has been blogged about in the latest weeks);
performance improvements when scanning large directories;
the application is more responsive, as progress bars now appear whenever there's a long task to perform;
blueMarine now incorporates the new imaging engine from Mistral (and thus is able to take advantage of multi-core processors).

In the next days we should able to publish a video - the first in a series - which introduces the basic features of the application.

Early Access 0.9.EA5.780 available for download

The 0.9.EA5.780 build is available for download. This release contains fixes for all the major issues found in the latest weeks; furthermore it has been tested also with Linux and Windows. EA5 should be the last Early Access build and will be used for the testing process that will deliver the RC1.

blueMarine selected as application of the week by The Java Posse

The Java Posse guys have just selected blueMarine as the application of the week. Some comments about blueMarine can be listened to in the JavaPosse podcast (around 3/4 of the timing).

We'd like to thank the NetBeans guys - as you can learn in the project history page, blueMarine would have probably died without the release of NetBeans 5.x which gave it new life - and the SwingLabs guys for providing such exciting GUI components.

blueMarine is presently available in Early Access builds and we are working on testing for providing stabililty.

0.9. Early Access builds available

The porting of version 0.9 under the new architecture is almost complete and the first Early Access builds for developers are available at the java.net repository. Old sources will be soon removed from the SourceForge repository.

Architectural change and other news

We are building blueMarine 0.9, which will be probably available in June. In the meantime we are announcing a few relevant news about the new build.

We have ported blueMarine under the NetBeans OpenIDE platform. This allowed us to offer a much richer and stable GUI, to drop a lot of proprietary code and the related testing stuff.
The new codebase has been committed under dev.java.net; the SourceForge repository will be soon dropped.
We have started writing the design documentation, available in the "For Developers" section of the site. We have also posted a new document about how to download sources from the new repository and build a copy of blueMarine (be warned that the committed sources as today are only a subsection of the application; more will follow in the next weeks).
As in the meantime the jrawio sub-project has been improved too, blueMarine v0.9 will be able to support a larger number of camera models from Nikon, Canon, Sony, Minolta, Olympus, Pentax.

Major code reorganization

In the current blueMarine build we have removed all of the code related to Camera RAW processing. It has been moved to the jrawio project, while blueMarine design should improve in clarity becoming more format-neutral.

At last, after six months, a new release of blueMarine is ready. A lot of work has been done for improving the integration with Mac OS X and extending support to new cameras and file formats.

For a problem occurred at our provider's facility, our website has been unavailable since Sunday, 27 Nov. Now everything is online again.
